Poland’s furniture industry has become one of the world’s most important furniture manufacturing hubs, with the country being the third-largest furniture manufacturer in the European Union. The Polish furniture industry accounts for roughly 3 per cent of the country’s total industrial output, with Poland being the largest furniture exporter in the European Union, holding a 19 per cent share of EU furniture exports in 2023.
According to Eurostat, Poland is home to 19 per cent of all furniture businesses in the EU and 22 per cent of the sector’s workforce. The industry consists of some 25,000 enterprises, ranging from large factories to smaller, highly specialised workshops. This diversity allows Polish manufacturers to serve major retail chains and boutique distributors with equal confidence.
The industry’s size is notable, with the combined sold production of the Polish wood and furniture sector reaching PLN 85 billion, while its exports came close to EUR 17 billion. Foreign demand is critical to them, with exports accounting for nearly two thirds of the furniture industry’s total turnover.
The largest category of furniture produced in Poland is seating, which represents 44 per cent of the value of all furniture manufactured in the country. Living room, bedroom, garden, and bathroom furniture account for a further 40 per cent. The remaining segments comprise office and retail furniture, kitchen furniture, and mattresses.
The principal buyers of Polish furniture are EU countries, with Germany being the largest market, followed by France, the Czech Republic, the United Kingdom, and Sweden. However, the industry is not confined to the European market, with a growing number of Polish furniture companies delivering projects across the Middle East, Asia, and the Americas, including furniture collections for various clients.
